A ray of light accompanies the statue on the left hand side. A golden drop falls from its face. Gold is in the crown as well as the flame held by the statue.

The word « sanglant » («bloody ») can be read on the right hand side of the painting, in front of Death. It comes as part of the French anthem that is vertically handwritten underneath the silhouettes.
